Traffic Related Offenses
The attorneys at Zweig & Associates represent individuals charged with misdemeanor and felony traffic offenses in the various courts of the Commonwealth of Virginia beyond DUI. These include, but are not limited to; driving on suspended license, driving without a valid operator's license, reckless driving, habitual offender, speeding, racing, and hit & run to name only a few. All of the charges mentioned above are misdemeanors and could result in a jail sentence, hefty fines and loss of your privilege to operate a motor vehicle in Virginia and the United States.
There are less serious charges such as speeding, failure to obey a highway sign, improper lane change and improper driving which are not misdemeanors, but which still carry significant penalties if not properly defended. Although these charges are only infractions, conviction for these traffic offenses will negatively affect your insurance premiums and could result in the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles placing you on probation and administratively suspending your privilege to operate a motor vehicle. Each of these infractions carries points which have a significant negative affect on your driving record.
Some jurisdictions allow good drivers to attend traffic school for dismissal of the charges, even if you are guilty of the traffic offense. Sometimes, prosecutors are willing to reduce traffic infractions to lesser traffic offenses even if the person charged is guilty. It is not likely that Commonwealth Attorneys will negotiate with "pro se" litigants (litigants who represent themselves). It takes experienced and aggressive attorneys to find whatever weaknesses exist in these types of cases and litigate them to their fullest whenever necessary. The attorneys at Zweig & Associates are these experienced attorneys.
